The honest guide to specialty coffee in Amman
By the Deja Brew editors · Published 6 Aug 2026 · Amman, Jordan
Specialty coffee isn't a vibe or a price tag — it's a standard. Beans scored 80+ by graders, roasted recently enough to matter, ground the moment you order, and brewed on a recipe someone actually dialed in that morning. Amman's scene has grown fast in the last decade, and we're proud to be part of the generation that made "which roaster?" a normal question in this city.
Here's the secret though: none of that is your problem. You don't need vocabulary to drink well in Amman. At Deja Brew in Abdoun, the move is simple — tell the barista what you usually like ("milky and sweet", "black and strong", "something cold") and let them drive. Three visits in, you won't even need the sentence. You'll just say: my usual.
When to come: we open at 7:30 AM (8:00 on Fridays), and the first hour on the Abdoun terrace — Ahmad Al-Arousi Street light, city still quiet — is the best desk in Amman. Laptop crowd thins by noon, families arrive after five, and the last calm espresso happens around 10 PM. We're open till midnight, every day.
One order to convert a skeptic: a V60 of whatever single origin is open that week — currently a Kenya that tastes like blackcurrant juice — next to a warm chocolate-chip cookie. If that doesn't do it, order them a Spanish latte and read them the next article.
